The Viking Trail Heading west we will start the tour by riding around Whalfjord with stop at the old Whalstation. This road was the main road around Iceland and since the tunnel under the fjord was build it´s almost no traffic and one of the best tarmac road in south Iceland with its winding “hilly” turns and surrounded by mountains. Lunch stop at Ferstikla where we can see and discuss how the Second World War connects to Whalefjord. Driving to the highland road Kaldidalur-road, we will drive around the longest lake in Iceland, Skorradals-lake, 17 km through forest and up to the highland. Arrive at National Park Thingvellir where oldest parliament in the world was founded year 930. At Thingvellir you can “see” Europe and American tectonic plates move apart from each other, about 4 centimeters pr year. Next we ride around the Thingvalla-lake to view point over the lake at to Langjokull-glacier and then winding and hilly road to Reykjavik.
